Notes on safety
Important notes on safety
Test your deep snow formIf the great adventure is calling, you should prepare yourself step by step. In the area around the glacier lift, you will find ideal terrain for practicing on deep snow slopes with varying degrees of steepness. The steep descents labelled with an S are only for those who have mastered this terrain!
Stay on the route
All tours described here lead through the high alpine terrain away from secured slopes. Do not deviate from the route - fall hazard!
Athletic requirements
Safety mastery of the equipment even in poor snow conditions, basic alpine experience, and a good level of fitness are basic prerequisites. Test your abilities before a tour on the deep snow slopes near the glacier lift!
Equipment
The Dachstein Gletscherbahn will easily bring you to your starting point at 2,700 m above sea level. Despite the easy access, you will be in high alpine terrain. Bringing emergency equipment (LVS device and avalanche probe, shovel, first aid package and a mobile phone) should therefore be a given. The use of tour equipment and furs is required for many of the guided tours. The Dachstein crossing and the Edelgrieß area can be run with normal ski equipment (correct ties!) or standard snowboards.
Orientation
All tours should only be undertaken in good visibility conditions. The descent to Hallstatt-Obertraun is marked by posts. All other tours require basic route planning (map and tour description) or accompaniment by a local guide! You can download GPS data for all tours at the Dachstein Mountain Station.
Snow conditions
Poor snow conditions can considerably increase technical and athletic challenges. Please make enquiries before the tour!
Avalanche hazard
There is acute danger of avalanches after heavy snowfalls and strong winds. In particular, the steep descents to the south in Ramsau may become impassable. For this reason, please make enquiries about current avalanche hazards before starting the tour!
