A fascinating world of ice, light and sound

In recent weeks an entire new mystical universe has evolved in the Dachstein Ice Palace: the world of Ancient Egypt. The Sphinx, Tutankhamun, Nefertiti and the Pharaohs were painstakingly carved from thousands of kilos of ice and the special lighting effects employed in this unique exhibition allow visitors to immerse themselves in this myth-enshrouded era. It is not just Egypt fans who are enthralled.

A total of five ice sculptors supervised by Michael Bachnetzer, a sculptor and teacher at the Geisler-Moroder carving school in Elbingenalp (Tirol), spent weeks working on the figures. From Nefertiti’s beautiful face to Tutankhamun’s imperial expression, the figures were carved with the utmost attention to detail and make – quite literally – cool subjects for photographs.

In addition to the “Ancient Egypt“ special exhibition, visitors to the Dachstein Ice Palace can also admire the “Blue Salon“, the “Crystal Dome“ and a full-scale “Red Bull R7“ Formula 1 racing car in this fascinating attraction where the outside world is quickly forgotten. In the nooks of the Ice Palace there are always new things to discover and experience.
