Dachstein Crossing

Austria’s national ski tour is one of the most beautiful ski tours in the Alps. It begins at almost 2,700 metres above sea level on the Styrian side (Mountain Station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn, accessible from Ramsau am Dachstein), the goal lies in Upper Austrian Obertraun. Austria’s national ski tour is the most spectacular way to “experience” the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dachstein. It covers a stretch of over 20 km, mostly in the form of downhill runs. The Dachstein crossing takes between 4 and 5 hours; naturally, there are opportunities to stop and rest along the way. A return transport will be ready in Obertraun (prior registration with the office of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn necessary).

Shuttle service for Dachstein crossers: Obertraun – Schladming

Planai buses will take care of the return journey. The buses run on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday at 15:15 from the Valley Station in Obertraun to Schladming. You can also get on in Hallstatt - please note this in your registration. Connections in Schladming with regular service buses to Rohrmoos and Ramsau city. Good tour weather is necessary. A registration for the return journey at the office of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn Valley Station is absolutely necessary.

Free offer for tour guides
Crossing Dachstein from the south (Gletscherbahn): you can use the lift facilities at Gjaidalm (Gössl + Gjaidhaus slope) for free. Repeat journeys - rates as per appendix.
Tour members who ascend from the north (Krippenstein/Gjaidalm) can use the glacier lift uphill once for free. Repeat journeys - rates as per appendix.

Special rates for tour guides
For tour guides who ascend from the north (Obertraun) and descend on the south side (e.g. Edelgrieß), the Dachstein Gletscherbahn offers a reduced uphill ticket. Those crossing the Dachstein from the south (from the Gletscherbahn) can use the Krippenstein rail facilities at special rates. Rates as per appendix.
